BuddyPress is only the first step towards the next social network

Although the BuddyPress development team thinks of their product as a community building tool, or niche social network, I can’t help thinking this is the first step towards the development of the next social network. If BuddyPress turns out to be an success, Wordpress will probably develop a version for the self-hosted installations - making it possible for bloggers to connect with each other through a global Wordpress platform.

August 06, 2008 By: madhav Category: Web 2.0, microsoft, windows No Comments →

Microsoft’s new operating system research project is mysteriously named “Midori” Coining the codenames for consumer tech products can be a tricky business. Thus it seems slightly strange that Microsoft has chosen the word “midori” for its latest research project. It’s an effort to create an internet-based system for a world where people use more than one machine to access applications, and it’s already being talked about

It all started after Bill Gates left Microsoft that Microsoft has started a research project to create software that will take over when it retires Windows .It is centred on the internet and does away with the dependencies that tie Windows to a single PC. Yuil : Yahoo’s Mashup of Cuil

July 31, 2008 By: madhav Category: Google, Web 2.0, cuil, yahoo, yuil No Comments →

A new Search Engine in competition to Google was launched on last monday named cuil by former Google engineers couples and recently yahoo has introduced Yuil.

Yuil is a mashup of Yahoo! search results presented using the new Cuil look and feel, and running on Google’s App Engine,” as Tyler Hall tells us.

Yuil is actually the product of Yahoo VP of Platforms, Sam Pullara, who is using the site to show off Yahoo’s recently-released BOSS API. BOSS is unique among search engine APIs, giving developers an unprecedented level of control over results generated by Yahoo’s search engine. And while Yuil isn’t really doing anything new with its search results, they’re more relevant than the occasionally bizarre ones we’ve been getting from Cuil.

A startup led by former star Google engineers on Sunday unveiled a new Web search service that aims to outdo the Internet search leader in size, but faces an uphill battle changing Web surfing habits. Features of Adobe Flash Player 10

July 19, 2008 By: madhav Category: Adobe, Web 2.0, madhavonline, windows No Comments →

3D Effects — Easily transform and animate any display object through 3D space while retaining full interactivity.?Fast, lightweight, and native 3D effects make motion that was previously reserved for expert users available to everyone. Now, you would be able to easily move DisplayObjects in 3D with Actionscript.Custom Filters and Effects — Create your own portable filters, blend modes, and fills using Adobe Pixel Bender, the same technology used for many After Effects CS3 filters. Shaders in Flash Player are about 1KB and can be scripted and animated at runtime.

Advanced Text Layout — Fully supported Bi-Directional Text Support. A new, highly flexible text layout engine, co-existing with TextField, enables innovation in creating new text controls by providing low-level access to text offering right-to-left and vertical text layout, plus support for typographic elements like ligatures.

Enhanced Drawing API — Runtime drawing is easier and more powerful with re-styleable properties, 3D APIs, and a new way of drawing sophisticated shapes without having to code them line by line.

Visual Performance Improvements — Applications and videos will run smoother and faster with expanded use of hardware acceleration.?By moving several visual processing tasks to the video card, the CPU is free to do more.

Dynamic sound generation — Dynamic sound generation extends the Sound class to play back dynamically created audio content through the use of an event listener on the Sound object

File Reference runtime access — Files can be accessed as a byteArray or text using a convenient API in ActionScript without round-tripping to the server. You no longer have to know a server language or have access to a server to load or save files at runtime.

GPU Compositing — Hardware compositing takes advantage of the tremendous memory bandwidth and computational horsepower of the GPU, reducing the load on the CPU, and can provide a performance boost to many graphically intense applications, resulting in more fluid, realistic and responsive user experiences.

GPU Blitting — Paint SWFs into the browser using your video card by choosing this new HTML parameter. Your content can run faster and give you the freedom to do more.?Developers can enable or disable GPU surfacing to perform hardware blitting for each SWF within a web page without having to recompile the SWF.
